Hypnosis is a means of communication between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. It is a natural psychological state that allows your mind and body to attain a profound level of relaxation. Hypnosis is generally established by an induction procedure, at which time the individual can experience changes in sensations, perceptions, thoughts, or behavior.

Hypnosis, with it's many applications, is rapidly emerging as a highly effective science in problem solving.  It's a valuable adjunct to standard medical care and psychotherapy; and is probably the lowest risk procedure available from the standpoint of contraindications.

Utilizing techniques such as progressive relaxation, guided imagery, goal reinforcement and hypnotic suggestion, the therapist can bring about major changes in health, motivation, self confidence, emotional stability, pain relief and habit control.

The Process

The first session begins with an in-depth interview, to assess the identified problem and devise an appropriate treatment plan.  The therapist and client work together to formulate the best possible solution to attaining the client's goal.  This may be followed by a progressive relaxation session or other appropriate induction techniques.  Subsequent sessions are designed based upon the client's individual needs and changing goals.

Who Can Benefit

Anyone with a true desire to make a positive change in his or her life can benefit from hypnosis. Hypnotherapy opens your mind to how you can reverse and correct those ways of acting and reacting that are not working for you. One of the main benefits is that changes that are made at a subconscious level are more durable and longer lasting than those made on a conscious level.

Factors That Are Needed For a Successful Hypnosis Experience:

1.  Motivation.  The individual should have significant motivation to change.  If you are "quitting smoking" or "losing weight" because someone else wants you to do that, then your chances for success are reduced.  Those people who come here for assistance because they want to make a change, respond easily and quickly. Before you make a decision to use hypnosis for self-improvement,  become clear in your own mind, why you want to change.  A clear intention for positive change, significantly enhances your success for hypnotic suggestions to become a part of your everyday life.

2.  Believable Suggestions.  In order for positive personal change to take place in hypnosis, the individual has to believe that what is being suggested is obtainable and real.  Your mind must accept the suggestion as a real possibility.  If you can visualize the change in your mind,  then you can actualize the behavior in real life.  To see it, is to believe it, and to do it.

3.  Reinforcement.  Habits and behaviors are often deeply ingrained in a person's subconscious mind.  Behavior change requires support and reinforcement.  That's the reason you will be given a reinforcement tape to listen to for a period of time.  Repetition over time will help maintain your motivation for this positive change.
